Franz Paces Saints To Another Sweep of Vassar

Rookie Carter Franz continued his assault on Vassar pitching on Saturday, St. Lawrence University's baseball team to a 6-1, 12-4 sweep of the Brewers in Poughkeepsie on Saturday and a four-game sweep of the Liberty League doubleheader.
The Saints improve to 9-7 overall and are 4-4 in the Liberty League, while Vassar is now 4-11 overall and 1-7 in league play.
Franz went 11 for 18, scored seven runs and drove in 11 in the weekend series. He was two for four and drove in three runs in Saturday's 6-1 first game win for the Saints and went three for six, scoring two and driving in four in the 12-4 game two win.
Pat Considine threw a two-hitter, striking out eight and allowing only an unearned run in game one for the Saints. SLU built a 6-0 lead as Franz hit a two-run double in the second and rookie Matt DeLuca hit a two run homer in the third. Robert Carman went two for three and drove in a run in game one.
Jason Conde earned the win in relief in game two as the Saints were down 3-0 after four, but scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the lead. Conde went five innings, allowing one run on four hits for the win.
Franz hit a two run triple in the sixth and scored on a wild pitch and added a two run single in the seventh. DeLuca had a two run single in the fifth and Tim Harris hit a two-run double in the eighth.
The Saints are scheduled to play a single game against Plattsburgh on Tuesday at Tom Fay Field and will host Union for Liberty League games on Saturday and Sunday.
