Lawless, West Earn Top-25 Finishes at Williams Carnival

Feb. 19: St. Lawrence University's Jeremy Lawless and Ann West each earned top-25 finishes on Friday in the Giant Slalom races at the 2010 Williams Carnival. The sophomore pairing led both the Saints' men's and women's alpine teams to eighth place finishes in the event.
Lawless was the top St. Lawrence finisher in the GS, racing in a time of 1:41.16 to land in 22nd position overall. The Shelburne Falls, MA native earned 22.0 points for the Scarlet and Brown behind his third top-25 of the season.
Senior James Andersen and junior Thatcher Jacques rounded out the men's team's scoring with 27th and 30th place finishes, respectively. The pairing brought the squad's total to 56.0 points.
Senior Michael Wallman (33rd), sophomore Matt Dodge (44th) and senior Graham Flinn (49th) also competed in the Men's Giant Slalom.
Meanwhile, West collected her fourth top-25 finish of the year with a time of 1:48.68 to land in 25th position overall. The Boulder, CO native earned 21.0 points towards the carnival.
Joining West in the scoring for the St. Lawrence women's alpine team were sophomore Mackenzie Irwin and junior Heidi Robbins. Irwin was 30th in the event while Robbins followed two spots back in 32nd. Like the men's team, the women earned 56.0 points to finish eighth, a single point out of a tie for sixth.
Sophomore Elena Rogers (33rd), junior Kelly Skinner (37th) and first-year student Ashley-Kate Durham (DNF 2nd) also competed in the Women's GS on Friday.
The University of Vermont swept the team titles with 135.0 points each. The Catamounts were sparked by individual victories by Valerie Kechian, who won the women's race in 1:42.91, and Chris Colpitts, who earned the men's title in 1:37.97.
Both of the St. Lawrence Alpine teams will be in action again tomorrow, Saturday, February 20 in the Slalom at the Williams Carnival.
