Irwin, Robbins Earn Career-Best Finishes in Slalom at UVM Carnival

Sophomore Mackenzie Irwin had a career-best finish on Saturday in the Slalom.

Feb. 6: St. Lawrence University sophomore Mackenzie Irwin and junior Heidi Robbins each earned career-best finishes on Saturday in the Slalom at the 2010 UVM Carnival in Stowe, VT.  The duo, joined by sophomore Ann West in the scoring, led the Saints' women's Alpine ski team to a sixth place finish in the event with a total of 69.0 points.

Irwin was the team's top finisher in 16th place in a combined time of 1:48.03.  The Toronto, ON native earned 26.0 points towards and the carnival and 15.0 towards an NCAA Championship bid.  Robbins, meanwhile, followed in 18th position for her first career top-20 finish.  West completed the team's scoring in 24th place.

Junior Kelly Skinner (33rd), sophomore Elena Rogers (41st) and standout-rookie Ashley-Kate Durham (DNF 1st) completed the team's roster in the Women's Slalom.

On the men's side, senior James Andersen finished in 23rd place to net 19.0 points for the Scarlet and Brown and was the squad's top finisher.  The Putnam Valley, NY native was joined in the scoring by junior Thatcher Jacques (27th) and sophomore Scott Houser (32nd), who brought the Saints' total to 48.0 points to land in ninth place as a team.

Sophomores Matt Dodge (DNF 2nd) and Jeremy Lawless (DQ) rounded out the team's roster in the Men's Slalom.

Megan Ryley of UVM continued to dominate the carnival season, winning her fourth consecutive race in the Women's Slalom in 1:42.16 and leading the Catamounts to the team title with 113.0 points.  Dartmouth's Ace Tarberry claimed the men's individual title in 1:39.34, while Colby College won the men's team title with 107.0 points.

The Saints will be in action again next weekend when they compete in the 2010 Dartmouth Carnival on Friday and Saturday, February 12 and 13.
