Rogers, Robbins Earn Top-25 Finishes on Day Two of SLU Carnival

Senior Michael Wallman was the top finisher in the men's slalom on Saturday.

Jan. 16: St. Lawrence University sophomore Elena Rogers matched a collegiate best finish on Saturday, the second day of the 2010 SLU Carnival in Lake Placid, NY.  The Naugatuck, CT native was 19th overall in the Women's Slalom, with junior Heidi Robbins also earning a top-25 finish to lead the women's squad to a 7th place showing in the event.

Rogers earned the Saints 24.0 points with a total time of 1:56.21, while Robbins' time of 1:59.12 was good enough for 24th overall.  Junior Kelly Skinner rounded out the Saints' trio of scorers in 35th position in 2:06.04, bringing the team's total to 58.0 points.

Sophomore Mackenzie Irwin followed in 38th place in a time of 2:11.54, while rookie standout Ashley-Kate Durham was 43rd after struggling on her first run.  The Timmins, ON native, who was 7th in the Giant Slalom on Friday, had a total time of 2:24.84, with sophomore Bond Longley (DNF 2nd) rounding out the women's team's roster.

Senior Michael Wallman was the top finisher on the men's side for St. Lawrence in the Slalom on Saturday.  The Park City, UT native was 32nd overall in 1:49.55, netting 16.0 points for the Scarlet and Brown.  Senior Graham Flinn was next for the host school in 36th place (1:54.42) while sophomore transfer Jeremy Lawless rounded out the scoring in 40th place (2:07.08).  The team combined for 40.0 points to land in 9th place.

Sophomore Matthew Dodge (2:57.23), junior Thatcher Jacques (DNF 1st) and senior James Andersen (DNF 2nd) also represented St. Lawrence in the Men's Slalom.

Dartmouth's Courtney Hammond won the women's event with a time of 1:52.33, a mere .02 seconds ahead of UVM's Megan Ryley.  However, UVM did sweep the team events, with the men totaling 120.0 points and the women gaining 130.0 points.  David Donaldson captured the men's slalom for the Catamounts in an impressive time of 1:36.30.

Both the Saints' men's and women's Alpine teams will be in action again next weekend, January 22 and 23, at the 2010 St. Michael's Carnival.
