Brett Young became the first rookie to pass the 400 yard receiving
mark in eight years for the Saint football team and earned
both Liberty League Rookie of the Year and first team all league
as well as All East honors as a tight end in 2004. He led the Saints
in receptions with 29 and was an outstanding blocker as the Saints
had one of their most productive seasons offensively in several years.
Young was a football, basketball and track standout at Spaulding
High School and was a two-time New Hampshire all-state player and
a Shrine All-Star game participant. As a sophomore, he’s
yet to declare a major, but has interest in the sciences and
social sciences.
He started his collegiate career at 225 pounds, but has sinyoungce
added some bulk through weight training without affecting his ability
as a receiver. While tight ends normally are short yardage receivers,
Young is averaging 11.6 yards per catch this season with a long of
24 and finished his rookie season with an average of 14.8 yards per
catch. His performance as a rookie helped the Saints to their best
season since 1992 as the rebuilding of the Saint football fortunes
has hit a higher gear.
