Brittan White '08

A well-spent childhood has helped Brittan White ’08 become one of the top intercollegiate horse show riders in the Northeast.  White, a graduate of Southampton High School in Southampton, NY, began riding at age 3 and competed in the first show at age 5. She rode in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship Show for the second straight year, representing St. Lawrence and Region II as the region’s High Point Rider, also for the second straight year as a member of St. Lawrence’s riding team.

Brittan competes in Open Equitation over Fences and Open Equitation on the Flat, the two highest classes in IHSA competition. She also qualified for nationals as an individual with a reserve Zone Championship in Open on the Flat.

“I never had the top trained horse and ponies when I was young, but had the young or untrained ones that I would work with and help to train,” the government major and sorority member says. “It wasn’t always about the material awards of ribbons, but the reward of making it around the course smoothly with a difficult horse that I had been training all year long.”

Successful at all levels of children’s and junior competition, she has continued that success at St. Lawrence. “I strongly feel that the diversity of horses I rode and trained when I was younger has contributed to my success in the intercollegiate world,” she says.
