Pitcher
and math major Josh White '06 , Westmoreland,
NY had a special senior season.
Josh, a standout in the classroom
as a three-time Liberty League All Academic team member and math major, had a spectacular finish to a solid career as a four-year
regular on the Saint baseball
team. A pitcher and outfielder in his first three
seasons, Josh was 4-2 on the mound with a 4.38 earned run average
and 52 strikeouts, second on the team as a junior. He also hit
.324 in 21 games in the outfield as the Saints made it to the Liberty
League championship game.
Josh helped the Saints to their first Liberty League Championship
and their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1991, finishing
the year with one of the best records in Saint baseball history for
a pitcher.
Following a 13-6 setback at Rochester in which he surrendered eight
earned runs, Josh turned nearly untouchable on the mound, going 7-0
with a 1.37 earned run average, striking out 50 while walking only
14. Included in that 7-0 stretch were four consecutive shutouts and
a string of 38.6 scoreless innings, a St. Lawrence record and the
second longest unscored-upon streak in NCAA Division III baseball
history. He had four consecutive starts in which he allowed only
one hit, starting with a near-perfect game in a 3-0 win over Skidmore
as he put away the first 18 batters he faced before a leadoff single
in the seventh. He then threw six innings of one-hit ball in a win
over Hamilton, tossed a one hitter, striking out seven in a 1-0 win
over Vassar and threw his fourth straight one-hit game in an 8-0
win over arch-rival Clarkson.
While Rochester did manage three hits against him in the Liberty League
opening round, he got his revenge for the early-season loss as the
Saints won 17-0 for yet another complete game shutout. His final career
start came in the NCAAs where he shut down league rival Rensselaer
for his ninth win of the year and the first win by a Saint team in
an NCAA tournament game.
Josh graduated from Westmoreland Central School.
