Katia Stipinovich ’07, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe,
is helping build a tradition. Katia, a multi-talented athlete, played
volleyball, rowed on the crew team and ran cross country and track
at St. Paul’s School in addition to being a three-year, All-league
selection in squash and earning Boston Globe All Scholastic
honors in squash. She also played for the Zimbabwe national teams
in several tournaments prior to coming to the U.S. for her education.
She was conference Player of the Year in squash as
a first-year player on the Saint squash team and has played in the
number one and two spots throughout her first three seasons of intercollegiate
squash. She started her career in the two spot behind 2006 graduate
Lara Kimble, who was also from Zimbabwe, and took over in the number
one spot when Kimble sustained a wrist injury. She went 13-10 against
some of the best competition in the nation and earned the
finals of the Holleran Cup second round consolations at the College
Squash Association individual championships. Katia earned All Liberty
League honors as a sophomore and has been an all academic selection
in each of the last two years.
A strong candidate for a second league Player of the Year award,
Katia went 17-5 at number one for the Saints, who finished third
in the Kurtz Division of the Howe Cup competition for the national
team championship. She will play in her third straight CSA individual
championship in March.
