Elliott Savitz '06 stepped into the starting lineup
in game one of his freshman season for the Saint men’s soccer
team and
has never left. As the Saints headed into the 2005 Liberty League
tournament, the senior midfielder and team captain had made 76 consecutive
starts for a soccer team which has been one of the best in the country
during his career.
While the
graduation of 13 players from the 2004 team has led to a rebuilding year in 2005,
the Saints enter the month of November just two wins away from an eighth consecutive
NCAA tournament berth. Savitz has been a big part of three of those NCAA tourney
trips for the Saints and is the leading scorer this season with five goals and
four assists for 19 points including two game winning goals. He played on teams
which won 49 games in his first three seasons and went 20-1 in league play with
a trio of league titles.
He was a first
team Regional All America, first team Liberty League all star and
an Academic All America as a junior and has earned three straight
league All Academic awards. A history major and a member of
the SLU Buddies program, Elliott is one of several Saints who have
to deal with time zone differences when calling home to tell his
folks the score.
Elliott,
who was an All Academic team member, team MVP and captain in soccer
at Point Loma High School, is joined by teammates from Arizona, Montana,
Colorado and Utah among the western contingent on the Saint roster.
