Kevin Russell ’08, Madison, CT, is following
his brother’s footsteps. The recruiting process was a little
easier for the Saint lacrosse staff when it came to Kevin
Russell, as his brother Rob was a four-year standout for the Saints,
graduating in 2003. Rob was the fifth player in SLU history to record
100 career assists and the eighth in SLU history to score over 200
points, giving Kevin some targets.
A first-team all league selection and second team all state choice
for Fairfield Prep where he also played soccer, Kevin is 25% of the
way to joining his older brother in the 200-point club after putting
up 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points and earning Liberty
League Rookie of the Year honors in 2005. The first rookie
to lead the team in points in four years, he was first in assists
and third in goals scored for a team which went 9-6 and made the
Liberty League semifinals.
He is a key player for a Saint team; the leading scorer among all rookies
in the Liberty League a year ago, he had two five-goal games as a first
year player. He topped older brother Rob by 10 points when comparing
rookie seasons, and if he can top Rob’s sophomore point totals
by 10, the Saint coaching staff will be very happy…the target
is 74 points.
