Saeger Philpot ’07

Field hockey has taught me to be dedicated to my team, and my academics,” says

Saeger Philpot ’07 of Gilmanton, NH. A standout in field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse and an All-New England selection at Kimball Union Academy, Saeger concentrated on field hockey at St. Lawrence, capping her career with second-team All-America honors and a spot in the North-South Senior All-Star game, where she helped the North team to a victory prior to the NCAA Division III championship game at William Smith College.

Philpot was a key contributor in her first three years as the Saints posted three consecutive winning seasons. She earned all-league and second-team Regional All-America honors as a junior after her second consecutive five-goal, one-assist season.

She had her best year as a senior, when she served as captain, helping her team to a share of the Liberty League regular-season title and the tournament championship game. The Saints went 11-6, including a perfect 6-0 at home, and Philpot led the team in scoring with 11 goals and eight assists for 30 points.

She scored five game-winning goals and assisted on a sixth; among her game-winners were the decisive goals in one-goal league wins over Rochester, Hamilton and Union. Her outstanding senior season was capped by a host of honors including selection to the prestigious North-South game, first-team All-Liberty League, All-State and Regional All-America honors and the second-team National All-America selection.

The performance and communication arts major and film studies minor says, “My coach has pushed me to succeed both in and out of the classroom and to strive for perfection in everything that I do.  Because of field hockey, I have learned discipline, leadership, team work and ultimately what it means to be committed to something larger than yourself.”
