Nick Perzanoski '08

For senior track standout Nick Perzanoski, the letters MVP stand for Most Versatile Performer.

The Bristol, NH athlete and Newfound Regional High School graduate contributed 26 points all by himself to the Saint men’s team’s successful defense of its New York State Collegiate Track Conference championship, scoring in five different events in the two-day meet at St. Lawrence’s Newell Field House. The Sunday before, he won his second straight NYSCTC Pentathlon Championship, the second most difficult test of athleticism in track and field.

Perzanoski’s day in the 2008 pentathlon started out with a second-place finish in 7.95 seconds, worth 863 points, in the 55 hurdles. Event two, a half hour after the completion of the hurdles, was the long jump, which he won with a 6.45-meter leap, earning 686 points. Event three, the shot put, is typically the lowest scoring for many multi-athletes and Perzanoski finished eighth, earning 505 points with a 10.32-meter throw.

After the shot put, it was time to take off the throwing shoes and don the jumping shoes again, this time for the high jump. The biology major tied for third, earning 653 points with a 1.83-meter jump. To cap the day and complete the competition is a 1000 meter run, which Perzanoski finished in 2:52.82, earning 736 points and locking up his second title with a career high 3443 points.

The pentathlon title is actually Perzanoski’s third straight multi-event championship. He won his first decathlon championship last spring, a two-day competition which includes the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meters, high hurdles, discus, pole vault and javelin.
