Saint swim coach Bob Clemmer is always on deck….the pool
deck, that is. His swimmers look forward to tossing him into
the pool when they score a big win.
Clemmer’s teams have shown steady growth in his five
seasons as head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming
and diving teams. While most of the Saint swimming records were
set in the 1980s, two men’s records and five women’s
records have been set by swimmers coached by Clemmer and his staff. The
Saints have also been highly competitive in the dual meet
season and have shown improvement in their finishes in
the two championship meets contested during the year, the Liberty
League Championships in December and the New York State Women’s
Collegiate Athletic Association Championship and men’s Upper
New York State Collegiate Swim Association Championship conducted
at the end of the season.
Coach Clemmer has an impressive coaching resume which includes experience
as head coach of several swim clubs and as assistant coach at the University
of Pittsburgh and the University of Virginia, both NCAA top 25 teams
during his coaching tenure. He has coached 25 high school All Americas,
Olympic trial and national championship finalists and Pan Pacific,
Pan American and Olympic Festival Medalists. He was coach of the 1995
and 1997 National Junior Teams and a head coach at the 1993 and 1995
Olympic Festival. He also coached the individual medley at the 1994
and 1997 USA National Distance Camps.
