Women’s lacrosse coach Jodi Axtell ’91 knows
what it takes to succeed. Jodie, now in her sixth year as the
Saint women’s lacrosse coach, played in three straight NCAA
lacrosse championship tournaments as a St. Lawrence undergraduate
and was a member of the 1990 team which was the first Saint
women’s team to play in an NCAA championship game. She
and her teammates on that 1990 team were inducted into the St. Lawrence
Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
A standout on the tennis team as well as the lacrosse team, Jodi
is one of nine St. Lawrence coaches who attended the university
for their undergraduate degrees. She is also well aware
of the strong connection between athletic and academic success which
is a big part of St. Lawrence athletics as she was named the Senior
Scholar Athlete award winner in 1991 and is a member of Phi
Beta Kappa.
Currently working on her doctorate, she also serves
as an assistant field hockey coach in the fall and has the women’s
lacrosse program in a position to compete for an NCAA bid. She has
done 49-28 in five seasons and her 2002 team went 14-5 and played in
the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship. Last season her team went 9-5 and
made the Liberty League tournament finals, falling just short in a
bid for an automatic NCAA berth.
