Fran Grembowicz
Saints Athletics

Fran Grembowicz was named the head coach of the St. Lawrence field hockey program in the fall of 1998. The 2012 season marks her 15th year at the helm of the program in which she has compiled a career record of 147-92 (.615). She has led the Saints to winning records in 11 of the last 12 campaigns, compiling a record of 132-74 in that span.
She has established the Saints among the region's top
programs, tying the SLU record with 14 wins en route to both the New York
State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association tournament title and the
ECAC Mid-Atlantic field hockey championship in 2000. Under her guidance, the Saints were NCAA Regional Finalists in 2001 and were Liberty League regular season co-champions in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
The Saints
were Liberty League tournament finalists in 2004, 2006 and 2007. Grembowicz was the league's Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2008 (Co-Coach of the Year). She also had the opportunity to coach for the
North team in the North-South Senior All Star game in 2004.
An assistant athletic director at St. Lawrence, Grembowicz was also the Saints softball coach from 1999-2012. Building the program from the ground up, she coached numerous all-conference selections, and her team was conference champion in 2000 and runner-up in 2001. She began her Saint coaching career as women's basketball coach, and laid the foundation for a program which emerged as one of the top small college programs in the East.
Grembowicz, who has an extensive college and high school coaching background, came to the Saint program from the University of Chicago to start the 1991-92 season in basketball. She was assistant director of undergraduate studies in the college of kinesiology at Chicago. Prior to that she was assistant varsity basketball coach at Smith College, where he also served as junior varsity basketball coach and assistant softball coach. She has also been athletic director at Rochester (VT) High School and coached field hockey, basketball and softball.
A graduate of Castleton State with master's degrees from the University of Vermont and Smith, Grembowicz has played in national softball tournaments and was a member of the United States Field Hockey Association Northeast squad in 1979.
