Daniel Hernandez will continue to serve as the 2012-13 Women's Basketball Faculty/Staff Mentor.
Hernandez is the Associate Director of Counseling Services in the Diana B. Torrey '82 Health and Counseling Center. Originally from Sacramento, CA, he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at San Jose State. Early on in his career he did an assistantship at the Shrine Hospital in the Bay Area in California, working with children who were diagnosed with a terminal disease.
"After experiencing my first death, of an 11-year-old girl, and working with her family, I knew then that this was the field that I wanted to pursue," said Hernandez. "In addition, I have a love for teaching and sharing my clinical experience with graduate students who have a passion and desire to help people."
Hernandez regularly runs workshops at St. Lawrence on issues surrounding the loss of loved ones and also teaches EDPS 523 (Aging, Death, and Bereavement Counseling) and supervises graduate students in the counseling practicum at the Torrey Health Center.
