James C. Hefti '48
An All East player and a member of the Dartmouth College All Opponent Team in 1940, Jim Hefti was one of SLU's outstanding football players in his era, leading the team to six straight victories in one season before being sidelined by injury.
A record-setting halfback, he served in the military from 1942-45 and in 1946 returned to SLU after turning down a contract with the Los Angeles Dons. He signed with the Washington Redskins following the 1946 season and was also selected to play in an Eastern All Star game against the New York Giants. He returned to the military during the Korean War and stayed in the Army for a total of 28 years, retiring as a colonel.
