A member of the St. Lawrence athletic department for 34 years prior to his retirement in 1991, Bob Sheldon helped guide the athletic program through some of its most successful years.

A graduate of Colgate University and a five letter winner as a senior at Oswego High School, Bob joined the Saint staff in 1957 as head basketball coach, compiling a record which included 110 wins, the first ICAC championship and a record for wins in a season. He also spent nine seasons as backfield coach in football and eight seasons as junior varsity football coach, compiling a 31-6-1 record.

He became athletic director in 1974 and oversaw the expansion of St. Lawrence athletics to a 24-team program. Teams earned 32 NCAA bids, won two titles and produced 28 individual champions during his career.

He served as Eastern chair on the NCAA basketball selection committee as well as on many ECAC committees.
