Intramural Captains Information
Saints Athletics
General responsibilities:
Each team's captain MUST be present for the captain's meeting to verify his/her team's participation. Failure to attend will result in his/her team's elimination.
The next captain's meeting is scheduled for THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 at 7:00pm in Augsbury 124. Full payment ($5.00 per player) is due by the captain's meeting.
The Intramural Captain is the contact person between the team and the Intramural Office and if a team is to compete successfully in the program, a good captain is necessary. Matters affecting the team are to be communicated to the captain and he/she is responsible for passing this information on to the team members. If a captain is also a player on the team, they MUST be listed on the team roster as a player!
Information sent out by the Intramural Office should be read with care. Each Captain should also assume the responsibility of seeing that the members of his organization are given an opportunity to read and interpret all communications. Experience has proven that the teams that are contending for the leading position are the ones that have the alert and efficient Intramural Sport Team Captains.
Team Captains should carry on their work by direct contact with the Intramural Office. They should visit the office frequently and become acquainted with the Intramural Director and the specific Sport Commissioner.
The Intramural Team Captain is responsible for:
A. thoroughly understanding the rules of each sport and tournament advancement
B. notifying his/her team of the date, place and time of each contest
C. making sure that the team is on time for each scheduled contest
D. thoroughly understand that TWO FORFEITS result in expulsion from the league.
E. making sure that the team is wearing light or dark shirts (light for home team, listed first on the schedule or dark for visiting team, listed second on the schedule).
F. checking the schedule or tournament drawing after each contest, thereby, making sure that all results are recorded correctly before leaving the site of the contest
G. making sure each member of the team complies with the eligibility rules as outlined on the back of this form or on the Intramural Bulletin Board
H. the sportsmanlike conduct of his/her team and/or supporters
I. notifying the Intramural Office of any change of captains
J. appointing one member of the team, as a representative, to the Intramural Advisory Board
K. frequenting the Intramural Bulletin Board, in the Augsbury Center Lobby, for any changes or updates and checking e-mail account for cancellations and schedule changes
L. Violations of rules and/or the spirit and philosophy of the Intramural
experience could result in suspension of player or team from current or
future Intramural participation.
M. Any equipment destroyed due to theft (listed above) or improper use of the equipment the team will be charged (payment due before next game) or forfeit their season.
The success of our Intramural Programs and the amount of enjoyment received by your members in competition depend a great deal on your effectiveness and worth as an Intramural Captain. To be successful, a captain must be a hard worker, constantly keeping in mind the welfare of the team.
