Women's Soccer Kicks Off 2009 Athletic Year

August 27: St. Lawrence University's women's soccer team will kick off its 30th year as an intercollegiate program and the 2009-10 athletic year when it hosts Cortland in the first official NCAA contest of the new year on MacAllaster Field Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m.

Emily Johnson Named Assistant Coach

July 1: Emily Johnson, an All America player and member of the 1991 Division III National Champion women's soccer team at Ithaca College, has been named assistant women's soccer coach at St. Lawrence University.

Hynes Earns All Region Honors

Dec. 9: Sophomore back Nicky Hynes continued to receive accolades for her performance this season as she was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-New York Region First Team on Tuesday.


Hynes (Carleton Place, ONT/The Kent School) anchored a defense that only allowed 77 shots on goal, the lowest in the conference, 13 goals, and earned nine shutouts. The defender also recorded one goal and two assists en route to the Saints 10-5-3 overall record, which also included their first trip to the Liberty League Tournament in five years. 


Hynes earned Defensive Performer of the Week honors after securing a defensive line that only allowed two shots on goal in two games. Her efforts placed the Saints among the best in the country defensively throughout much of the season.

 

Five Saints Earn All Conference Honors

Nov. 6: Five Members of the St. Lawrence University women’s soccer team were recognized for their contributions to the team’s success Thursday morning as three Saints were named to the All-Conference team, and two players were Liberty League Honorable Mentions.


Sophomore defender Nicky Hynes (Carleton Place, ONT/The Kent School) led the way for the Scarlet and Brown as the only Saint to be named to the Liberty League First Team. Hynes anchored a defense that only allowed 76 shots on goal, the second lowest in the conference, 12 goals, and earned nine shutouts. The defender also recorded one goal and two assists en route to the Saints 10-4-3 regular season record. Hynes earned Defensive Performer of the Week honors after only allowing two shots on goal in two games.


Senior captain Lauren Sischo (Rodman, NY/South Jefferson) and Junior midfielder Becca Townsend (Stockton, NJ/North Hunterdon H.S.) were both conference Second Team selections. Sischo tallied three goals and added two assists for eight points so far this season. The senior also tallied a game-winner earlier in the season. The North Country native was recently named to the 2008 ESPN Academic All-District Third Team for her efforts both on the field and in the classroom.
