St. Lawrence University junior Aimee Caligiore of Lake
Placid recorded her second straight top ten finish at the New York State Women's
Amateur in Rome on Friday.
Caligiore, who earned All America honors and finished tied
for 14th in the NCAA Division III Championships in May, began play
in the 54-hole tournament with a 78 on a par 72 6,024 layout. She shot 77 in
the second round and began the final round tied for fourth, nine shots off the
lead. A balky putter contributed to a final round 81 and a tie for eighth in
the field of 64.
Caligiore entered the Rome tournament just a few days
after playing in a U.S. Women's Amateur qualifier on the difficult 6,455 yard
track at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, N.J. She posted 5-over-par 77 and
missed advancing by four strokes on a course rated 78.3 by the U.S. Golf
Association.
Ironically, Caligiore was grouped with the medalist in
both competitions. Victoria DeGroodt, of Walden, N.Y., came from behind to win
the state title with a closing 71 as the leaders faltered on the final holes.
The Lake Placid golfer also played alongside Brittany
Altomare, of Shrewsbury, Mass., in the N.J. event. The University of Virginia
standout posted 4-under 68 for the victory.
