Division of Student Life
Mission, Aims and Objectives

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Division of Student Life is to provide students with developmental and co-curricular educational opportunities that support their personal growth and complement the academic mission of St. Lawrence University.

OUR AIMS & OBJECTIVES
In our mission to provide students with developmental and co-curricular educational opportunities our aim is to provide them with the following abilities:

  • The ability to serve as active participants in our community and to engage in leadership and civic opportunities which will assist them in developing leadership skills, learning the importance and value of serving others and being a positive role model, and creating a sense of mutual empowerment within the campus community.
  • The ability to develop a positive sense of self and an understanding of their values and beliefs, enabling them to feel confident in themselves as whole individuals and in their ability to express themselves to others.
  • The ability to recognize their comfort zones and to seek to challenge themselves to move past these places.
  • The ability to function in both speaker and listener roles as well as the ability to consider the context and purpose of a communicative act before choosing the content, tone and delivery style of their message.
  • The ability to cope with the successes and challenges of life in ways that are healthy and demonstrate a respect for themselves and others.
  • The ability to understand and experience learning as an ongoing and holistic process that has the potential to occur in multiple settings and situations.
  • The ability to develop and demonstrate intercultural competencies, to see themselves in relation to the global community and to engage in communication that respects the values and differences of others.
  • The ability to fully anticipate and accept the consequences of their actions and decisions, specifically those that affect themselves and others in the St. Lawrence and Canton communities, and to take responsibility for their own academic and co-curricular learning.
  • The ability to manage their daily living in ways that allow them to live and learn in a safe and healthy community.
