One of the things I looked forward to as a prospective SLU student was studying abroad. India was the best fit for me! As a student in a New York State consortium program (including SLU and four other Central/Upstate universities), I was able not only to spend time in New Delhi, Jaipur, Mussoorie (where we learned Hindi in the Himalayan foothills), and Benaras (where we got to stay on the Ganges); I was also presented with the invaluable opportunity to pursue my own research interests! During the four months of our stay, I went to Sufi shrines and talked with people there about the faith and its openness to other religions, including Hinduism. The conversations I had were rewarding, personally and for my project. I cannot wait to go back!
