Craig Ruksznis ’07, of Sidney,
Maine, enrolled at St. Lawrence for physics and discovered Art and Art History
and math, and their relationship to Web design. As a student at Messalonskee
High School, Craig first heard of St. Lawrence from his friend’s
older sister, Andrea Labonte ’05, and once he investigated,
he found a lot to like about the University’s Outdoor Program and
the physics department.
But after coming to St. Lawrence, Craig chose to make the
most of the liberal arts curriculum by pursuing a double
major in fine arts and mathematics. For him, specializing
in these two disparate fields is an effective method of balancing
his creativeness with an analytical perspective. “When I
become overwhelmed with math, I do art and vice versa,” he
says. Craig has been designing, coding and managing web sites since
2001. “Being able to design a website in Photoshop,
and then write the code to implement my design satisfies
my interests in both mathematics and Art and Art History,” he says.
Craig is also a member of the SLU Outing Club, the Laurentian
Singers, and Student Alumni Association. He is also the personal
relations chair for Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. “I have been
able to diversify my skills in the marketing position of Art and Art History
through my involvement in Alpha Tau Omega,” he says.” Also
related to marketing, Craig has also been working as a
web designer for University Communications. As
a junior, he studied in Florence, Italy.
Craig secured a summer internship at Colby College’s Museum of
Art. As for his future plans, he is keeping an open mind. He might
consider advertising, web design, ‘curatorship’ or a master’s
degree in statistics.
