Through art, Aram Muksian ’04 raised
awareness of social injustices. Aram brought some of the past
injustices suffered by the Armenian people into focus in his student
photo documentary Peace Amidst the Roots of Turmoil, exhibited
in the University’s Richard F. Brush Art Gallery when
Arman was a senior on campus. The fine arts major and education minor won
a grant from St. Lawrence’s Center for International
and Intercultural Studies to travel to Armenia with
his grandfather during his junior year to create this body
of photographic work.
His students at the Beacon Charter School in Woonsocket, Rhode Island,
likely appreciate Aram’s connection of his heritage,
human rights and artistic passion. The school’s
mission is “to provide students with intensive training in visual
arts, performing arts, artisanship, or culinary artistry, and to encourage
students to explore and develop self-expression through their chosen
art form” while it “fosters development of citizenship,
leadership skills, [and] personal responsibility.”
