A sociology and Spanish double major with a minor
in music, Eddie
Molina '07, of Elmshurt, NY, can bound at
functions of Model
UN,
the Laurentian
Singers, Calling All Saints, and the Gospel
Choir. He
is also a peer tutor in music and is a brother in Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
One
memorable experience was his stint as an assistant to Upward Bound’s Spanish
teacher. He explains, “I learned a lot and had a lot of fun at the
same time. I realized that I was a role model to them, and that made me want
to keep doing what I was doing.”
During the
summer of 2005, Eddie conducted research on the music of the
Vietnam War, looking at the anti-war music that American soldiers
such as Barry Sadler and Bill Ellis composed and performed. Eddie received funding from the McNair
Program, which is designed to introduce underprivileged students
who plan to attend graduate school to graduate level research.
“This project taught me what it means to do research, how to do it, and
where to go to find sources of information,” he says. “Being
guided by my faculty mentor, Larry Boyette, was very helpful--he
gave me suggestions on how to conduct my research and how to write
my final paper.”
Eddie
is on St. Lawrence’s Spain Program this year. “People
at St. Lawrence have always been there for me,” he says.” As
a visually impaired person, I can say that St. Lawrence has done so
much for me that, if I had to pay back the community, I would be in
debt all my life.”
