Atlatl Battle Weekend

The Department of Anthropology hosted a two day event during Family Weekend including an Ancient Technology Workshop as well as what we hope is the first of several Atlatl Battles. During the Ancient Technology Workshop on Friday Bob and Cheryll Berg from Thunderbird Atlatls taught both SLU and SUNY Potsdam students how to flint knap (to make stone tools) and how to haft stone tools onto a handle. On Saturday, SLU and SUNY Potsdam students squared off in an atlatl dart throwing competition. SLU won 248 to 203 and took the coveted title "2014 Atlatl Battle Champions". We hope to continue this tradition (and win the trophy) next year!
