
Dr. Alice Pomponio is Professor and Chair of Anthropology. She received
her Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College and began teaching at St. Lawrence in 1983.
Although her primary area of expertise is in the Southwestern Pacific, she has
a graduate school "minor" in Africa. Dr. Pomponio is a charter member of
the AFSAB. Specializing in linguistic anthropology, psychological
anthropology, symbolic systems, and the anthropology of religion, she has
taught courses on Peoples and Cultures of Africa, African Belief Systems, and
several topical courses that emphasize material from Africa. She
co-directed the Kenya Semester Program for a year and a half from 1995 through
1996, and has served as an interviewer and the on-campus Co-ordinator for the
Kenya Semester Program Selection Committee for many years.
