Global Studies Professor Presents Research at Oxford
Madeleine Wong, associate professor and chair of global studies, delivered a presentation at the International Migration Institute at Oxford University on Jan. 18.
Her presentation, titled “Skilled Ghanaian Return Migrants Navigating the Gendered Politics of ‘Adjustment,’” address three facets of their experiences: the informal and subjective processes by which skilled return migrants interact with and counter dominant workplace cultures in and across transnational spaces; the gender dimensions of their experiences; and, drawing on Bourdieu’s work, analyzing the ways in which different forms of capital – human, social, and cultural – between different groups and individual actors create intersections of inequality and privilege in the work place setting for these migrants.
