Advocates Program Photos:
On Friday, September 5th, Advocates volunteered at the Student Organization Fair to recruit new members into the Program. Leah Farrar ('11), Jami Laubich ('10), Ali Moore ('10) and Meredith Clynes ('09) staff the table after setting up with April Spearance (staff). Approximately 40 students expressed interest in the Advocates Program at the fair - great work everyone!

Each year, first year and transfer students are invited to attend "Can I Kiss You?" with Mike Domitrz of the Date Safe Project. The interactive program teaches students tricks for successful dating on the college campus while respecting the desires of both parties. Students rave about Mike's presentation, calling it the "best part of Orientation" and "a great way to end the week." Pictured below from left to right, back to front: Becca Gilbert ('09), Ardelle Rivera ('09), Liz Reed ('10), Leah Farrar ('11), Amanda Mereau (staff), Brooke James (staff), Anne Dunham ('10), Mike Domitrz (guest) and Katie Protos (staff).

Sixteen Advocates returned to campus early in August 2008 to participate in a 4-day training as part of the peer education branch of the Advocates Program, ActIVE - Acting for Intervention and Violence Education. The students reviewed material from the AWARE Training and practiced their skills as peer educators using improv, skit, game and art to generate new ways to teach about sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking.

The last meeting of the year is a celebration of the hard work volunteers do throughout the semester. This photo was taken in April 2008 in Lee Hall during our senior send-off and volunteer appreciation meeting. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard for the Advocates in 2007-2008!
