The first year of college represents many challenges and opportunities, from making the transition to college-level reading, writing, and speaking to figuring out how to manage your time and make choices about your academic trajectory.
One of the most important things you can do is enter into a productive advising relationship with your academic advisor, who is also one of your FYP professors.
Some important academic objectives in your first year:
- Familiarize yourself with the St. Lawrence University curriculum, including general education requirements and important policies and procedures
- Take a range of courses whose subject matter is exciting to you, whether related to a prospective major or some other academic interest
- Begin to explore some of the many co-curricular possibilities available to you on campus
Attending First-Year Cup events is a great way to learn about many of the exciting opportunities out there for you.
