September 27th was a fun-filled Friday for many St. Lawrence students as the Association for Campus Entertainment (A.C.E.) put on its annual Fall Concert. This year students grooved to the great music and good vibes of GROUPLOVE and The Rubens.

The Rubens opened the concert playing popular songs “My Gun” and “Lay It Down.”  off their self-titled album. The up-and-coming band played a fantastic opening set, and now they have a whole crew of SLU students listening to their music! GROUPLOVE, a U.S. based indie group, headlined the concert. GROUPLOVE came to SLU coming off the recent release of their sophomore album Spreading Rumours and sold out shows across the country. They played a mixture of songs off their new album such as “Ways to Go,” as well as more popular hits such as “Colours” and “Tongue Tied,” which hit #1 on the charts in 2012. GROUPLOVE played an energetic and electric set that kept SLU students dancing and singing the whole night!

I am Secretary of A.C.E. this year, which is an organization that helps to bring all kinds of entertainment to the St. Lawrence campus. We work to bring movies, comedians, speakers, and musicians to SLU. Our two big events are the Fall Concert and Springfest at the end of the year. For these events in the past, we have hosted T.V. on the Radio, Santigold, Ben Folds, Sound Remedy, State Radio, and even Grace Potter (a SLU alum).

As a member of A.C.E., we work hard to put on a great show for the student body. It takes a lot of work for our group to advertise, organize, and set up the event (including set up and take down of the stage), but it is all worth it to see great performers come to SLU! For the GROUPLOVE concert, we even got to hang out backstage and meet the band. It was a moment that I’ll never forget!

A.C.E. is a great organization to get involved with if you’re interested in music and entertainment. It has allowed me to meet like-minded students, and exposed me to tons of new music and entertainment! It’s also a great way to see all that goes into a concert including booking bands, setting up and taking down the stage, and providing hospitality for the performers. Joining A.C.E. has been a great experience, and I’m already looking forward to our next event. If it’s anything like GROUPLOVE, it will definitely be amazing!
