Vilas Scholarship

Awarded to students interested in the field of business. If you would like to be considered for the scholarship, please submit a supplemental essay responding to one of the following (we recommend an essay of at least 300 words):

• Imagine you are granted $1,000,000 to invest in an existing business or to create your own. How would you utilize the funds?

• Indicate an entrepreneur whom you admire and describe why you admire this individual.

• Imagine yourself in 20 years and describe how a liberal arts and science education prepared you for a career in business.

To be considered, students must submit the completed application for admission to St. Lawrence University in addition to the Vilas essay by February 1. Six to eight finalists will be selected from the group of applicants. Those students will be required to interview in New York City in March (all expenses paid). A committee of St. Lawrence trustees and alumni will interview each of the finalists and select the scholarship recipients. Those chosen as Vilas Scholars will receive a $15,000 scholarship annually for their four years at St Lawrence. Other finalists will receive at least a $7,500 grant annually for their four years at St. Lawrence.
