Community Service Scholarship
Rachel Lim '09
Rachel Lim '09, California, intended majors sociology and psychology: She has just begun to discover the wonderful opportunities at St. Lawrence to grow as a person and to help the world.

Before coming to St. Lawrence, Rachel's community service revolved around tutoring disadvantaged children and working with mentally and physically challenged children. At St. Lawrence, she is involved with SLU Buddies, a student group that spends time with at-risk local youth, and the local county Department of Social Services. Rachel was also part of a student group that went to Philadelphia, PA, to volunteer at a soup kitchen during Spring Break last month.

Rachel's passion for community service has led her to take community-based learning classes at St. Lawrence. She is also a member of Rotaract Club and works as a reading and math tutor.

Into her second year in college, Rachel already knows what she wants to do after graduation: she plans to volunteer abroad for two years, then get her master's degree in child development and social work. She then plans on working for international organizations. In the meantime, she hopes to obtain her teaching certificate so she can teach elementary school children at some point.
