"When a college establishes a program like PDS, with such an obvious intent to augment both the academic quality and ethnic diversity of the student body, it speaks very highly of the character of the institution."
Frank M. Izaguirre '08, of Miami, Fla., and Ransom Everglades School, is a student government senator, an admissions tour guide and host, and a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity; he is on St. Lawrence's program in Costa Rica in spring 2006. "Being given the honor of selection as a Presidential Diversity Scholar was certainly uppermost in my choice of St. Lawrence," he says; he also cites "the academic climate (stimulating, yet not cutthroat); the profound friendliness and approachability of students, faculty and staff; and St. Lawrence's distance from home, which I knew would make my undergraduate career even more of a learning experience."
