Requirements for Admission
In order to be best prepared to take full advantage of St. Lawrence's liberal
arts curriculum, you should have as broad a preparation as possible at the
secondary school level. Competitive candidates for admission typically present:
- four years of English;
- three years each of social studies, mathematics, foreign language
and sciences, with additional years of study in the areas of
your greatest interest; and
- work in other areas as determined by the requirements of your
secondary school and your interests.
Beginning with applications for entry in fall 2006, the submission
of standardized test scores (SAT-I, SAT Reasoning or ACT) is optional for all US citizens but not for international students.
Students must indicate on the St. Lawrence Common Application supplement
which scores, if any, they wish to have considered in the application
process.
Beginning with application for entry in fall 2012, international students must submit the official results of the SAT reasoning test scores in order to be considered for admission.
To Apply
To start the process, you should submit an application for admission, along
with the $60 application fee. This will allow us to create a file for you.
In addition, you will need to arrange to have an official copy of your high
school transcript and official results of your standardized exams sent (should you choose to submit them) directly
to St. Lawrence. You should also ask your counselor or other
school official and at least two teachers to send letters of recommendation
to complete your application file. All of the forms that you need are included
in the application packet, which you can obtain on-line here. St. Lawrence uses the Common
Application exclusively with a required supplement.
Early Decision
If St. Lawrence is your first choice, we encourage you to apply Early Decision.
If admitted, you are committed to attending St. Lawrence, provided satisfactory
financial arrangements are completed, and you then withdraw any applications
to other colleges.
Transfer Admissions
Students interested in transferring from another college should contact the
admissions office and request appropriate information and application materials.
The schedule for transfer applications is shown in the Admissions Calendar.
University Scholars Program
The University Scholars Program honors applicants who show outstanding academic ability and talents during the high school years. In addition to a scholarship, if you apply for and show financial need greater than the amount of your merit award, you will receive preferential financial aid packaging.
Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP)
Designed by the New York State Education Department, HEOP admits and counsels students who are classified as economically and educationally disadvantaged and who would benefit from additional assistance. HEOP students are required to attend a five-week summer session to strengthen their basic skills. For more information, please contact the admissions office or the HEOP office at 315-229-5580.
Financial Assistance
St. Lawrence takes pride in its reputation for having a strong financial aid program. Most financial aid applicants can be assisted through the University's multi-million-dollar scholarship fund, with scholarships awarded in combination with federal, state and local grants, student loans and campus employment.
Applying for Financial Aid
To be considered for need-based financial aid, you must submit the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available in secondary school guidance
offices in late fall and the College Scholarship Service Profile form. Please see our Financial Aid Webpages for further information on this process.
St. Lawrence is a member of the National Association
for College Admission Counseling and endorses the principles contained
in the association's Statement of Principles of Good Practice.
