I often surprise our student workers when I tell them that I began my admissions career working as a student in the admissions office at Wesleyan University more than twenty years ago.  I had the chance to interview prospective students and that led to a fascination with the college selection process and with working with students in the transition from high school to college.  My favorite part of my job is reading applications because every time I open a folder, I feel like I am opening a present with no idea of what will be inside.  My two favorite days of the year are the day that new students arrive for orientation and graduation day.  I appreciate that our students’ parents let me share in the pride they have for their sons and daughters.  I also like talking to groups of high school juniors and their parents because it is early enough to provide practical advice, and with any luck, help to reduce some of the confusion and anxiety that families have.  Helping students realize that they do have some control in this process, and encouraging them to take control where they can makes me feel as if I have made a difference.
