Alison Almasian decided she wanted to pursue admissions work
while she was a student tour guide at Georgetown University. After
knowing people from her hometown who attended St. Lawrence, she
took a trip to Canton, NewYork to check out the campus. Upon her arrival in 1991, she realized it was a perfect fit! Now, years
later at SLU, Alison still smiles when she talks about St. Lawrence. “I
love what the University is as an institution,” she says.
Among Alison's duties in the admissions office are supervising
clerical staff, organizing fall prospective student visit days,
coordinating alumni recruitment programs, and working on admissions
publications. When asked to name the most valuable aspect of St.
Lawrence, Alison recalls the time a prospective student from Maine
missed the bus to St. Lawrence when he arrived at the airport in
Burlington, VT. She called an alumni volunteer in Burlington who
knew of a student who was home for the weekend. The student happily
agreed to drive the prospective student to Canton. “That
is St. Lawrence,” she says. She also says watching each new
class come together at the matriculation ceremony each year is
very rewarding. Alison enjoys spending her spare time with her
husband, two daughters and son.
