Week 4 & 5

September 19 - 26

Kate McCarthy and Katie Powers

Are you tired of the same old reports? Well, do we have a pleasant surprise for you! After much bickering and coaxing, our report team was able to hold an interview with Ebenezer Conethrower, a prominent Arcadian Red Squirrel. He shared with us a squirrels - eye view of local activity and humdrum in the Yurt Village.

KP: Katie Powers
KM: Kate McCarthy
Eb: Evenezer Conethrower

KP: Ebenezer, what was your favorite moment for this week?
Eb: Well, along with stocking up my winter acorn supply, I quite enjoyed celebrating the birthdays of Nate, Mabel, and Erin. Quite the party scene around here! The students even broke out outrageous costumes! I also enjoyed the delectable brownie crumbs left over from Tuesday's festivities.

KM: Have they been doing any school work? Or have they just been partying all week?
Eb: Oh! I dare say they have been quite the busy bunch this week. A field trip to the Adirondack Museum with Glenn, a visiting author (Robert Root) and a midterm in Ecology to boot! When do they sleep?! I even hitched a ride to woodworking Tuesday and their paddles are looking lovely!

KP: Fall is rolling in; are the students staying warm?
Eb: Well, the nights are getting colder, but the students are warm and cozy in their sleeping bags. The days are getting shorter, and the lake water has cooled significantly. But the students are brave! They delve in full-bodied, even in the late night between trips to the sauna.

KM: Ooo! Sounds fun. Any other big news?
Eb: Well, the acorns have been scarce, many of them cracked open or broken. Plus my wife, Delila, is expecting and -

KM: Please Ebenezer, if we could keep the topic to student life? We don't have much time.....
Eb: Oh yes, excuse me! Let me think.....Some lovely Adirondack Fold music came pouring out of the community yurt on Friday. Even the woodland creatures gathered round to enjoy the sweet singing. I believe his name is Dan Berggmen, and the word on the trail is he will return for family weekend!

KP: Are the students excited for family weekend?
Eb: Oh yes! It will be a jolly affair and good times will be had by all.

KM: Well Ebenezer, thank you for your time - you have been most helpful. Good luck in the cold winter ahead.
Eb: Oh thank you! I'll send a photo-postcard when the youngin's arrive.

KP: Excellent, give us a high-five!
(High fives are exchanged and Evenezer departs)

KP to KM: Ooo, I think I broke his little paw........
