Cultivating Place: Bioregionalism and Community Engagement

Cultivating Place: Bioregionalism and Community Engagement

(ODST SPTP 147)

This course will examine, both theoretically and experientially, the foundations of bioregionalism and how as individuals and communities we connect to and identify with place. While using the Adirondacks as a lens, this course will integrate readings, discussions, personal experiences and first hand learning from individuals and groups whose lifework is intertwined with their place. Through these avenues we hope to form a deeper relationship to the Adirondacks, while promoting active and engaged citizenship. Throughout the semester connections will be made and parallels drawn so that students will have the tools to redefine and re-inhabit their home. (One-half unit credit)
