Four sophomores were inducted into the St. Lawrence chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honorary society: Nassir Abou Ziki, Heather Cutler, Tim Moore and Brad Williams were welcomed as new members by president Alex Fisher '10, Chris Funch '09, Richards (Chad) Miller '10 and David Tersegno '10 as faculty and friends looked on.

The St. Lawrence chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, founded in June 1929 was one of the earliest chapters in the country and has inducted over 300 members over the years. Dr. Catherine Jahncke is their advisor, having revived the group in 1995 after 2 decades of dormancy. Membership in the Sigma Pi Sigma honorary is by invitation to students who must qualify according to academic criteria: i) must have completed 3 semesters of college and 3 physics courses, ii) have a physics cumulative average of 3.0 and iii) rank in the top third of their class.

St. Lawrence also sponsors a Society of Physics Students group which holds several physics-related gatherings each year. The Society of Physics Students is open to any student interested in physics.
