At St. Lawrence
As a student at St. Lawrence, John was highly active in the community. He was a student leader in Air Force ROTC as the cadet Director of Operations. He created and instructed the St. Lawrence karate club. He was president of his class and the treasurer of the leadership honorary society ODK. In the lab, John organized and ran multiple independent research projects. His work on developing an animal model to study the effects of acupressure on pain resulted in a publication in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine. He also studied the hallucinogenic plant Salvia divinorum, and published his work in the European Journal of Pharmacology.
After Graduation
After graduating from St. Lawrence, John was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the US Air Force. He was stationed at Columbus AFB, MS as an aerospace physiologist and taught aircrew on a wide variety of topics including high altitude physiology, G-performance, spatial disorientation, and cognitive performance enhancement. In 2006, John was accepted into the MD/PhD program at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD, where he currently researches the development of the cerebral cortex, effects of traumatic brain injury, and mechanisms mediating cancer cell invasion and migration.
