Melissa was a mentor at the Quantitative Resource Center at St. Lawrence as well as a tutor for the Reading and Math Tutor Program at local elementary schools. Melissa played Varsity Softball and was Vice President of Circle K. In the Summer of 2009 Melissa participated in the Carleton College Summer Math Program for Women where she took classes in topology and number theory. In the Winter of 2009 she was an accounting intern at Aspire of Western New York in their fiscal department. She studied abroad in Ethiopia and in the Spring of 2010 was in Hungary with the Budapest Semester in Mathematics.

Melissa's Senior Honors Thesis (with Dr. Vandervelde) was on The Chromatic Polynomial.
