At St. Lawrence

Major:
General Studies in Education (M. Ed.)

During my M. Ed. studies at St. Lawrence, I completed student teaching at the International School in Accra, Ghana. (!) This wonderful experience gave me opportunity to learn how to teach at the same time I could experience the cultures of West Africa.

After student teaching, I accepted my first position as an art teacher at John Muir Middle School in Los Angeles. And because I was just beginning my career, it took me several years to complete the rest of my M. Ed. through SLU. Among other things, I was able to link my master's degree research project with my work to become nationally certified as an art teacher by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Doing so was an amazing experience in itself!

After Graduation

Since 2007, I have been teaching art at West Adams Preparatory High School in Los Angeles, a new school I helped to open. Among the many things we have done at West Adams Prep, my students and I helped to create a labyrinth garden on the school grounds as a living art project. It contuinues to inspire people today. Visit my professional website to see and learn more about the work of my students in Los Angeles!

In 2011, I was invited to return to SLU for a week in residence in art and education. You can read about my visit to SLU in my blog.
