Andrew B. Hayes `12
At St. Lawrence
I would like to encourage anyone interested in sciences at SLU to meet with the faculty in the Chemistry and Biology Departments. As a swimmer on the varsity team I know firsthand that teachers are willing to work with you and are very sympathetic to the scholar/athlete dilemma. I have had fantastic opportunities for research as an undergraduate including a summer fellowship and Senior Year Research. My mentor Dr. Matt Skeels and I have been using computational methods to stabilize proteins. I could not imagine having a better undergraduate experience than the one I received at St. Lawrence. My best advice to anyone interested in science is to remember to have fun! Don't be afraid to approach your professors and do what makes you interested.
After Graduation
I am going to take a couple years off of school just for a break and to train for the Lake Placid Iron Man. After this period, I intend to resume my studies either in Graduate or Medical school.
